HealthForumOnline & Stanley Block, MD of I-System, Inc Join to Co-sponsor Mind-Body Bridging Training to Mental Health Professionals

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) May 01, 2012
HealthForumOnline (HFO), a nationally-approved (APA, ASWB, NBCC, PSNA, CA-BBS) provider of online continuing education (CE) for psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals is pleased to announce a new alliance with Stanley H. Block, M.D., founder of I-System, Inc and developer of Mind-Body Bridging (MBB), to offer a series of online and live CE/CEU courses. Mind-Body Bridging is a branch of Mind-Body Medicine that is well-received by both providers and patients as a blueprint for facilitating the adoption and maintenance of health-related behaviors.
MBB techniques enable patients to tap into and constructively override their potentially maladaptive Identity System (I-System), an internal and often unconscious negative feedback loop that automatically maintains a disconnect between ones internal affective state (e.g., historic story lines) and the current, external situational demands of the moment. MBB has been shown to be effective in short circuiting these potentially maladaptive patterns in a variety of patient populations such as perpetrators/victims of domestic violence, and patients with ADHD, depression and anxiety, and more recently, PTSD. Among its benefits is its rapid effectiveness and resultant enthusiastic acceptance among patients. For this reason, it can be used as a brief behavioral intervention to modify health-related behaviors such as nutrition, exercise, smoking, sun exposure, substance abuse, stress management, pain management and sleep maintenance. More MBB-based information can be found regularly in Dr. Blocks blog for Psychology Today.
Recently added to HFOs extensive online CE resource library is An Effective New Model for Lifestyle Improvements and Wellness: Mind-Body Bridging. Based on Dr. Blocks bestselling, award winning book Come to Your Senses: Demystifying the Mind-Body Connection, this introductory course presents a comprehensive overview of MBB, the relevant literature and a discussion of its powerful experiential aspects and clinical applications to enhance quality of life across a range of patient populations. Additionally, an outline for a 3-session MBB protocol to promote health-related lifestyle change and wellness for use in a variety of clinical settings in both individual and group formats is offered.
Treatment of Young Adults with ADHD: A Mind Body Approach, upcoming in 2012, will be the second installment in the online CE course series and will discuss a translatable model for supporting patients with ADHD through the provision MBB. Content will focus on understanding core symptoms of ADHD, reducing negative self-talk, enhancing stress management, building assertiveness, managing important relationships, facilitating anger management and promoting decision-making. A 4-week protocol to assist young adults with ADHD through the reduction of unwanted symptoms and increase of self-reliance will be provided – possibly eliminating the demand for alternative treatments.
In addition, HFO will co-sponsor I-System, Inc.s live workshops for the Clinical Staff at Youth Services in South Salt Lake City, Utah in Spring and Fall 2012. This 2-part live workshop introduces the principles of MBB and teaches professionals to use these techniques in their various programs at Youth Services. Training entails 30 hours with the first 15 hours designed to the basic principles of MBB and integration of MBB tools and the second 15 hours designed to enable participants to teach MBB.
Psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses and other allied health professionals can chose from HFOs 19 categories of continuing education (CE) topics related to health psychology and behavioral medicine containing over 80 online CE courses that are fast, convenient and cost-effective.
